Knowing God, Finding Freedom, and Living the Full Life Jesus Offers

Jesus did not come so we could simply survive until heaven. He came so we could experience a full, purposeful life right now. But that requires more than just showing up. It requires moving, growing, and saying yes to what God has placed inside of you.

What Does It Mean to Actually Live the Full Life Jesus Promised?

In John 10:10, Jesus says, "The thief's purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life." (John 10:10, New Living Translation (NLT))

That rich and satisfying life is not reserved for eternity. It is available right now. But many people sit in church week after week, consuming the experience without ever letting it transform them. The goal is not to consume faith. The goal is to be changed by it and then go change the world around you.

Is It Possible to Attend Church Without Actually Growing Closer to Jesus?

Absolutely. It is easy to sit in the same seat, sing the same songs, and walk out the same person. Church can become something we simply watch rather than something we participate in.

When faith stays inside and never moves outward, frustration tends to build. People get angry at the world around them. But when you actually engage, when you become part of the solution, that frustration has somewhere to go. You stop watching the problems and start being part of the answer.

What Are the Four Steps to Living a Purposeful Life with God?

Ephesians 1:17-18 lays out a powerful framework: "I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know Him better. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people." (Ephesians 1:17-18, New Living Translation (NLT))

From this passage, four movements emerge that reflect what God calls every believer to walk through.

Step 1: Know God

Everything starts here. As 1 Timothy 6:21 reminds us, "Some of these people have missed the most important thing in life. They don't know God." (1 Timothy 6:21, New Living Translation (NLT))

Knowing God is not just about attending a service. It is about a personal, growing relationship with Him. It is about salvation, yes, but also about continuing to draw closer to Him every single day.

Psalm 122:1 says, "I was glad when they said to me, 'Let us go to the house of the Lord.'" (Psalm 122:1, New Living Translation (NLT)) There is joy in gathering with other believers. There is celebration in what God has done. Salvations, answered prayers, life change, and grace that is very real are all reasons to rejoice.

God wants to encounter you. Not a performance. Not a personality on a stage. He wants to meet you personally and change you from the inside out.

Step 2: Find Freedom

You can be a Christian and still struggle. Salvation is the beginning, not the finish line. James 5:16 says, "Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed." (James 5:16, New Living Translation (NLT))

Notice it says healed, not just forgiven. You can receive forgiveness in private with God. But healing often happens in community with other people.

The thing holding you back today might be something that happened to you years ago, or something you did that you cannot seem to shake. God wants to bring freedom from that. And the tool He most often uses is other people walking alongside you.

That is why community matters. Small groups, honest relationships, and people who are on the same path toward Jesus create the environment where real freedom happens.

Step 3: Discover Your Purpose

Psalm 139:16 says, "You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed." (Psalm 139:16, New Living Translation (NLT))

Before you were born, God wired you with specific gifts, passions, and a calling. Romans 12:6 confirms this: "In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well." (Romans 12:6, New Living Translation (NLT))

Studies suggest that around 85 percent of Christians have no idea why God placed them on this earth. That is a staggering number. You do not have to be in that group. Discovering how God has wired you changes everything. You stop comparing yourself to others and start walking in what He uniquely designed you to do.

Step 4: Make a Difference

Once you know God, find freedom, and discover your purpose, the next step is to use it. First Corinthians 12:27 says, "All of you together are Christ's body, and each of you is a part of it." (1 Corinthians 12:27, New Living Translation (NLT))

There is no age requirement. There is no experience requirement. There is no disqualification based on your past. God wants to do something through you, and it starts with one simple yes.

1 Peter 4:10 says, "God has given each of you a gift from His great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another." (1 Peter 4:10, New Living Translation (NLT))

When you have a gift and you do not use it, it does not just sit quietly. It burns. And that fire can turn into frustration and anger if it has nowhere to go. But when you use it in the kingdom of God, it becomes fuel for something meaningful.

Why Does the Great Commission Still Matter Today?

The Great Commission is not just a church program. It is the heartbeat of what Jesus called every believer to do. Reaching people and discipling them is not optional. It is the mission.

You have a reach in your community that no pastor ever will. The people you work with, live near, and share life with are people who need to hear about Jesus. You are positioned to reach them in ways that no Sunday morning service ever could.

Every person is a human being with a story. Reaching people is not about numbers. It is about lives being changed, one person at a time.

What Is Stopping You from Going All In with God?

Stop trying to figure out steps two, three, and four before you take step one. Just take the first step. Tell God you are scared, nervous, and unsure. That is okay. He already knows. What He is asking for is your yes.

John 15:8 and 11 says, "When you produce much fruit, you are my true disciples. This brings great glory to my Father. I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow!" (John 15:8, 11, New Living Translation (NLT))

The full life Jesus promised is not found in the stands. It is found on the field, in the middle of what God is doing in and through His people.

Life Application

This week, identify which of the four steps is your next move. Are you someone who needs to take the first step and truly give your life to Jesus? Do you need to stop isolating and finally get into a small group where real community can happen? Have you never taken the time to discover how God has wired you? Or do you already know your gifts but have been sitting on them?

Pick one step and take it this week. Sign up for a group. Reach out to someone about serving. Have a conversation with someone in your life about faith. Do not wait for the perfect moment. Just move.

The full life is available. Jesus already made the way. The only question is whether you are willing to move toward it.
